How to Earn Online Income from Affiliate Marketing

If you are serious about earning money from affiliate marketing online, you need to understand the process involved.  When you understand this process, you will know how to earn online income from affiliate marketing.  Lets begin.

How to Earn Online Income from Affiliate Marketing

For Newbies, What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is where an external website promotes an online retailers product and sends traffic to the online retailer.  If a successful sale is made then the online retailer will pay the website promoter a commission for the sale. Affiliate programs are free to join.  Affiliate marketing is a great way to monetize your website or blog.

You Website, An Important Step

The core of your enterprise will be your website.  Your website is your success foundation and therefore you should spend some time on it making it an enjoyable experience for your visitors.  Without a website, you cannot earn money online.  If you create, a website with valuable content that people are interested in you will be attracting an audience.

You Audience is Vital

Here is the great news about conducting business on the Internet.  In 2017, there are over 3.75 billion active Internet users, meaning they are all potential visitors to your site.  These Internet users use search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo to search for information.

When you learn how to take advantage of this audience, you can create and expand your business in your chosen niche field.

Your job is to get your website ranked by Google so that they can find you. When they find you, they will visit your website and explore the content you have created.  When they trust you and the information you have given them they will likely click on your affiliate links and buy what you have suggested.  This is where you will earn a commission.

Affiliate Programs

When you have traffic (real people reading your content), coming to your website you can promote almost any affiliate product.  The really great news is that you don’t have to own, store or ship any of the products you promote.

You then drive traffic through your affiliate links to the online retailer in the hopes that your reader will buy something in order to earn a commission.  Commission can be anything from 4% – 75% of the sale price depending on the affiliate program you belong to.

What are the Pros of Affiliate Marketing

  • It costs nothing to join an affiliate program
  • You do not need any marketing skills to start.
  • You can join multiple affiliate programs at the same time.
  • You can promote multiple products simultaneously.
  • You don’t have to handle customer care.

What are the cons of Affiliate Marketing?

  • They often have a payout threshold, i.e. $30 meaning that they will only pay your commission once you have reached your threshold.
  • They can change their commission structure at a moment’s notice.
  • You have no control over the affiliate program.
  • Anyone can join the program making the competition fierce.

I like how you pointed out some cons to affiliate marketing as well, in fact this is the first time I have really seen cons especially the ones you name, which are highly important. Competition, commission thresholds, those are huge! But in addition affiliate marketing can pay off when people trust you as you mention as well. How about an article explaining different affiliate programs and how they work? I would be interested in reading. Thank you!

      Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I think it’s an excellent idea to research a future article about different affiliate programs and how they work.

Affiliate marketing was a term I had never heard of several months ago; had I come across your site then, I would have made perfect sense. Instead, I just jumped right in, eyes closed. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to have access to the incredible training and support of Wealthy Affiliate.

The reality is that people can now build a website for free or at very little cost, but without knowing how to generate traffic along with knowing all the other components, you can be fighting a losing battle.

All the best with sharing this information, Celeste.

    Hello Celeste
Thanks for your post explaining affiliate marketing and not stopping there but also explaining the disadvantages of being an affiliate marketer.
As you mention,m any bloggers get carried away and start writing for the search engines, forgeting that there are real people reading whatever they write.
As said in your post, the best part of being an affiliate marketer is not having to deal with clients, therefore, no need to be a salesman/woman.Not having to deal with refunds or customer complaints is what attracted me to affiliate marketing and the fact that one does not need to have own products to promote.
    Very informative.

      Hi Roamy,

Thank you. We couldn’t agree more. if you have a blog you are building your own brand and it’s important to be a real person instead of a salesperson. A huge plus side to affiliate marketing as you mentioned is not haveing to deal with customers and refunds.
