How to Grow with an Email List, Email Lists Help Grow Your Traffic

Your goal from the get-go (when you publish your first blog) should be to start a relationship with your readers.  Your email list allows you the opportunity to email your readers and tell them what you’ve published on your blog recently or what’s coming up.  Make it sound exciting so that they can click through to your blog immediately.  Don’t forget to link back to your blog posts in your email.  If your content is interesting your reader will become used to your emails and look forward to checking out your new content making them a return reader.  Might might even refer their friends to your blog.   Put social share buttons in your email so that your reader can share your content.  Over time you will gain new followers and it will eventually snowball.

Make Money From Your Email List

Your email list is going to take some extra work because your readers are extra special.  Include freebies that no one else gets and give them exclusive information not found on your blog.  Think exclusive offers or services or a more personal look into your life.

If you are in the habit of giving your readers a ton of free value they will value you.  This means that when you launch a course, product or service they are more likely to buy from you.  They trust you and they know that if they spend money with you they will not be disappointed.

Your biggest asset your blog will ever have is your email list.  Why? These are the people more likely to buy from you because they know and trust you.  The random reader who lands on your blog doesn’t know how awesome you are yet and therefore they won’t easily spend money on your site. So treat your email list real special.

Let your Email List Tell You Who your Ideal Audience is

By learning who is reading your blog you can tailor your content to fit their needs.  Have a look at what emails gets the most clicks, this is a good indicator of what your readers like more.

Another great way to find out what your audience likes is by sending out a survey.  Your survey should be short and sweet and to the point.  Your survey can give you vital information about your blog.  Ask them what they want to see you write about more? Or what type of product or course they would find useful.

Use Your List for Affiliate Marketing

Once you’ve established trust with your subscriber’s you can start using affiliate links in your emails.  The affiliate products or services you are promoting should always be something you trust.  Because your loyal email readers trust you they are more likely to buy from you.  This is an excellent way to grow and monetize your email list. However, don’t be sneaky, always put in a disclaimer that it is an affiliate link.

Don’t bash your readers with affiliate links in your first email.  First, introduce yourself in the first email and tell them why they should read your emails.  You build trust and a relationship with them by giving them awesome information that will genuinely help them.  After a few emails will you can put in affiliate links that you think will either solve a problem they have or will be helpful. .

Adding email subscribe forms to my new websites is on my checklist of things to do before I publish any content on my websites. The reason for this is that as soon as I start publishing and sharing my content I may get subscribers. Why let even those few readers in the beginning slip through your fingers?

Not building my list from the outset is one of the big regrets I have when I started my first website.

    • Celeste

      Hi Lynne,

Yes, we couldn’t agree more.  It’s one of our biggest regrets to.  When we started out blogging we had no idea how important it was to collect an email list.

  • Lucas

You actually addressed the biggest mistake i’ve made since starting my first blog. I didnt set up an email list or a email capture form until I hit like 80-100 visitors per day.

If you think about thats some serious less of subscribers haha. I do hope your post gets out there so others dont make the same mistake as I did.

      HI Lucas

As I mentioned to flowstash, this was our biggest mistake when we started out as well.  Sharing is caring so I hope aspiring bloggers heed the advice and start building their email list as soon as possible.

This post ” How to Grow with an Email List & Rocket Your Business” was very enlightening. I just started blogging this year and have heard about sending emails to a fan based subscriber list but I paid it no heed. This is because I thought that it would probably bug them. I feel sheepish now because now that I think about it, they were the ones who signed up to be emailed to in the first place. Meaning they want emails from you the blogger. They want to be notified about something new that may help their cause. I will follow your Convert Kit Link and learn more thanks again.

When we started blogging it also took us a long time to realise how important email list building was. I’m very happy that I did it.  Thanks for reading and we hope that you start your email list soon and have great success.

I’ve been blogging for about a year now and I don’t have an email list. Part of the reason is I have always hated those annoying pop ups on websites asking me to sign up to their email list, and so my perception is that generally people would get annoyed and leave my site.

But I have always wanted to try building an email list because pretty much every affiliate marketer uses an email list and so there must be a good reason for it. But now the problem is I cannot find a good and free email list program. The one you recommended for example charges $29 a month after the 14 day free trial, that’s too much for me.

Do you know of any email list builder that’s just as good as ConvertKit but are free?

It is a great post…I haven’t made my email list, now I know how important it is for growing in the online business. I wonder to know how and where can I find the email of my readers? it is a hard thing to find out. I loved your post, congrats for your successful work.

    • Celeste

      Hi Maria,

It’s a really simple process.  Firstly, your readers must want to give their email address to you.  You can do this by creating a giveaway on your blog that they really want.  In exchange for the giveaway they give you their email address.  Secondly, you will need software to collect the the email addresses for you.  As I mentioned in the article Convertkit. is a great company with a good track record that can get the job done.  We are planning future articles on how to create giveaways your readers want and how to structure your emails.
