Change your environment
Maybe it’s time to change things around in your workspace. Move your desk to another spot. By rearranging your workspace you can spark creativity giving you the motivation you desperately need. If you constantly work in your home office maybe work in your bedroom or living room for a change.
Why not go for a long walk around your block? Being outdoors breathing in some fresh air is maybe just the thing you need. Look around you, what do you see? Smell the flowers around you, count the cars your walk by. Take a break from what you are doing and focus only on what you see around you and not what you were writing about.
Time for Java
Take a break and brew yourself a good cup of coffee. Your body will love the caffeine fix and you need the break in routine. Caffeine acts as a central nervous system stimulant. It helps you stay alert when you are feeling drowsy. Of course, always drink coffee in moderation. Serve your coffee to yourself elegantly and enjoy the experience.
Listen to Some Music
There is nothing like playing your favorite tunes to get you inspired. I have a playlist of my favorite songs and I know that when I listen to them I’ll feel better. A study conducted by neuroscientist Valorie Salimpoor found that music releases dopamine, a ‘feel good hormone’. Listening to music changes the chemistry in your brain and puts you in a good mood. Your favorite music can inspire you to break through writer’s block.
Have a weekly workout routine. Getting your fit and healthy is essential for both your work output and your physical wellbeing. Doing a regular cardio workout weekly reduces stress and temporarily relieves anxiety and depression. Put on your running shoes and go for that run.
Read Your Favourite Book
Put your tools down and take some time to read your favorite book. Reading helps your imagination and it helps you switch off from what you are busy doing.
Reading is good for:
- Stimulating your mind.
- Helps you become a better writer.
- Improves your memory
- Reduces stress.
- It’s entertaining.
There are many things you can do to break through writer’s block. Don’t sit there and wallow in self-pity. Don’t watch TV and think it’s going to go away. Get active, change your environment and do something that makes you feel better about yourself and that motivates you.
